Play Acol Bridge in Canary Wharf
Welcome to the Canary Wharf Bridge players website! We'd love you to come and play bridge in Canary Wharf, London E14, with us. We play here in East London every Monday night (except Bank Holidays).
We are a very friendly, informal, mixed ability bridge circle who meet once a week for regular bridge practice. We are always looking for more bridge players to join us. So if you are looking for a friendly bridge group in East London, why not join us?
As we do not offer any formal bridge teaching, we recommend that players have, at minimum, a good understanding of basic Acol bridge conventions and are confident in bidding and playing out contracts unassisted. If you are not yet at this level, then we highly recommend Ned Paul of Aces Hi! to help you develop your bridge knowledge and playing ability. Most of our players play Acol Bridge, but if you come from a different bridge background you will still be very welcome.
Once a month we host a duplicate competition, which is great practice for the bigger competitions. Quite a few of us will regularly compete in a number of the other London wide Duplicate Bridge Competitions. We also field a team in the London Bridge Houses Contract Bridge Association (LBHCBA) league. Many players in our group are EBU members.
We would love you to join us.
Our Monday evening bridge sessions take place in a wine bar in the heart of Canary Wharf, London E14.
And here's what you need to do if you like the idea of playing bridge in a friendly bridge club in East London (although officially we are not a "club" just a group of people who enjoying playing bridge):
Just drop us an email, so that we can invite you along and send you details of location and timings.
Do I need a partner?
No you do not. Once a week we check in our Whatsapp group who is available to play this week. We then do our best to manage the numbers so that we have multiples of 4 for the evening. On occasions when we are missing 1 player, we will play with a floating dummy. But it is therefore important for you to let us know if you will be coming on any given evening or not.
Most of the people in our group play Acol bridge. Players of all other conventions are welcome, but in that instance you may find it more useful to come with a partner who is familiar with your conventions.
Duplicate Bridge Competition Evenings
Whilst our Monday night bridge group in Canary Wharf is mostly informal, once a month we play a duplicate competition amongst ourselves. We currently average around 4-5 tables for this, and it is great practice ahead of the bigger competitions.
